The US unemployment rate rose to 3.9 percent in December 2018 from a 49-year low of 3.7 percent in the previous month, and above market expectations of 3.7 percent. It was the highest jobless rate since July, as the number of unemployed persons rose by 276 thousand to 6.3 million.
Job satisfaction is critical to high productivity, motivation and low employee turnover. Employers face the challenges of finding ways to increase job satisfaction so their businesses stay competitive. A global economy of discriminating consumers has placed demands on employers never before seen.
Legendary Texas football coach Spike Dykes once told me that a coach's success is 75 percent the players and 25 percent coaching. He said, "You give me the best players and an average coach and we will beat the best coach with average players every time."
This is a message to those of you sitting in your office right now (or faking jury duty for the third time) wishing you worked somewhere, or for someone, else. At the very least, you're wondering if you're in the right role, at the right company or doing the right thing with your life and your career.
